Defeating Challenges

Updated: Aug 16, 2020

My name is Jayla Day and I am the proud CEO of Jay Glitz N Glamz at only 18 years old. Jay Glitz N Glamz is a online store providing you, both male and female, your trendy up to date essentials. Jay Glitz N Glamz offers mink lashes, durags, headbands and more. I started Jay Glitz N Glamz when I was about 16 years old, originally named Glamed by Jay, where only makeup services were provided. I then manifested my business into retail shortly after with the help of the IM HIP Organization and others.

For as long as I can remember, being an entrepreneur has always been one of my aspirations in life, due to what was around me. My Dad owned his own barber shop. My Granny owned her own restaurant. My family is full of entrepreneurs.

At about age 15, I decided this would be my profession and then attended North Technical High school for business classes. Now I will soon be attending Clark Atlanta University this upcoming school year for Business Management.

I plan to expand my online store into multiple walk in stores. I aim for in a few years, that not only will my store increase in size but when Jay Glitz N Glamz is mentioned, it will be heard in the same sentences as bigger corporations such as Fashion Nova and Amazon. I vow that in a couple of years when Jay Glitz N Glamz is mentioned, small business will not be its simile.

I will be the first to say, being a young, black female entrepreneur is not easy, if you were coming here for a easy way out or to hear a story about how the grass is greener on the other side, this is not it. I have faced and conquered many challenges, and the most recent would probably, in fact, have to be Covid-19.

Due to me having a variety of oversea suppliers, mainly located in China, shipping was slow, business was slow, and money was even slower. I felt like I was in the process of taking three steps forward, just to be pushed back five, so I then adapted. I’ve tested multiple vendors and supplies since Covid struck to see what was best for me and my business. For this honestly, I am grateful. I would probably have never picked the great patch of vendors I have now. I have faced many challenges but somehow a great majority were blessings in disguise. Don’t stop fighting and don’t stop believing, remember Amazon was once a small business too!
